Kiran throws up hands on Telangana by-polls
It looks like Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has virtually thrown up his hands on the Congress party’s victory prospects in the ensuing by-elections in the Telangana region.
The Chief Minister made it clear that the party would not go to the by-polls on the Telangana plank.
“We don’t consider the by-elections as any referendum on the Telangana statehood demand. We would go to the people on the plank of developmental works and welfare programmes taken up by our government. The Telangana is not an issue for the state Congress party,” he said.
Apparently, Kiran is trying to pre-empt the criticism against him, if his party loses the by-elections in the Telangana region. It clearly shows his lack of confidence on the party’s victory, at least in the Telangana by-polls, if not in other parts of the state.
Kiran refused to comment on the statement of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy that the latter would not field its candidates in the Telangana by-elections.
“That may be his party’s policy. I don’t want to comment on the policies of other parties,” he said.
